Subject: KFlop/Kanalog Y axis not working

Just got my KFlop/Kanalog, I got it installed and everything seems to be working, except for the Y Axis, Channel1.  I am using JP4 13 and 14 for X (channel 0), JP4 15 and 16 for Y (channel 1), and JP5 13 and 14 for Z (channel 2).  X and Z work great, Y does not.  I have checked all the wires, and can see the signal on X and Z with the multimeter, but nothing on Y.  I have found something about a pull-down resistor, but don't if that is it.  Any help would be great, thanks, Paul

Hi Paul,

I assume you meant to say Z is on JP6 pins 13 and 14?

The first 8 of 10 I/O on both JP4 and JP6 (including pins 13 and 14) have 150 ohm pull down resistors.  The last 2 IO (pins 15 and 16) do not have pull down resistors.

This means that pins 14 and 15 can be used in all modes (LVTTL or open collector).  Where pins 13 and 14 can not be used in open collector mode because of the pull down resistor.

Ironically the pins that support all modes are the pins not working for you!

What mode are you using?  How are your drives wired?  What are the interface specs for your drives?

TK

Thanks for the speedy reply.

Yup, Z is on JP6 13 and 14.  I am using no input and output is Step Dir.  I am using gecko G320x drives, when I connect the X wires to the Y driver, it works so I know the driver is functional.  I can see the voltage change on the X Dir wire, but not on the Y wire, same thing with the Step wire.  This is really confusing me.

Hi Paul,

You didn't include how you are wiring the Drives or how you are configuring the Output Channels.  Please put more effort into your responses.

I'm guessing that you connected the G320X COM signal to KFLOP GND ?

I'm guessing you configured the OutputChan0's as 0, 1, 2 as "open collector" mode outputs ?

I think that would give you the behavior you describe because "open collector" mode is not supported on channels 0 and 2 (because of the pull down resistors) so they operate in 3.3LVTTL mode that should work with the G320X's.

Try adding 8 to all three OutputChan0 values to switch them all to LVTTL mode as described here:

(use 8, 9, 10 instead)

That did it, changed the outputchans to 8,9,10 and it works.  I understand what the instructions are saying now.  Some of this is a bit over my head.  Thanks for the help!
